American supermodel, actress, author, and entrepreneur, Kathy Ireland has one of the most recognizable faces in the world today, having been featured on the covers of hundreds of top magazines and also having appeared in movies and TV shows.
And she recently attended the 2008 Hero Awards at the Hilton Hotel at Universal City to present a special award to two of her heroes.
In an interview with ANS and Safe Worlds IPTV, Kathy said, “I am here tonight to acknowledge two very special people — Larry and Frances Jones, the founders of Feed The Children. They are remarkable for the twenty-nine years they have been meeting the needs of children everywhere.”
When asked how she first got involved with this couple, Kathy Ireland replied, “I learned about them through our work and we feel blessed that we’re able to conduct business in so many parts of our country and so many parts of our world. I work with a team of geniuses, not only mental geniuses, but genius hearts as well, and something that our team is committed to is giving back.
“We feel blessed for our opportunities and it’s been a privilege to work with and partner with Feed The Children in discovering and learning about the needs in different parts of our country, particularly areas where we conduct business, and working with them to deliver truck loads of goods. It’s wonderful. It is amazing that they are able to respond to emergencies wherever they may occur in the world.”
I then asked Kathy Ireland if she had become involved with Feed The Children because of her Christian faith.
“Well certainly, as Christians, we’re committed to give back; to look out for our brothers and sisters and so that definitely has an impact on my life for certain.”
She went on to say, “Larry and Frances Jones are people of strong faith and they have action with that faith, which is tremendous, and it is so powerful and they’re truly changing the world.”
I then asked her what she would like to say to people who see the world falling apart at this time.
“There is so much sadness in the world and what I would recommend to people when they are feeling depressed to do what Jesus commanded us — to ‘love your brother as I have loved you…’ That is something that is not always easy to do. If it was it wouldn’t need to be a command, but to be able to step out of yourself and just look around, you would find needs everywhere.
“I regret that for so many years, I was unaware, due to my own fault, of the needs all around me. But now I know there are opportunities for us to be of service wherever we look. So often, when we can step out of ourselves, look at someone else, focus on them, that sadness melts away and that’s where we get hope and that’s where we discover our gifts once we just start getting in there just dig in and do.”
